How To Care For Your Sick Dog.
Do you have problems caring for your sick dog? Are you unsure of what you're supposed to do for your pet? It must hurt to watch the animal that you love in pain so you want to do the best for it but you're not sure what that is. Well when a dog is sick, the experience can be quite traumatic. Unlike humans, dogs don't understand why they are unwell. It cannot make sense of its sickness or its injury and this causes further frustration and fatigue for the dog.
As the caring owner of a sick dog, it is your duty to make him feel as comfortable as you possibly can. One of the things you can do is to give your dog plenty of gentle attention. Allow him to be permitted to relax in his familiar resting place as soon as possible.
One thing to consider too, and that is if your home is to become the “hospital” for your sick dog, then you will need to consider a number of nursing issues that will help in creating a healing environment. Every sick dog should have a pleasant and comfortable healing environment.
When you realize that you have a sick dog in the house, your first reaction may be to snuggle him and lavish him with affection because he is feeling bad. Don't get me wrong, you should give him lots of attention, but please keep in mind that too much attention can be a bad thing for a sick dog.
He needs rest and recuperation and cannot be constantly moved around and kept awake from family members that want to “hug him to health”. Learn to have a healthy mix between letting your sick dog know that he is cared for and allowing him to rest and relax his way to getting better. It may seem harsh but this is the best way to care for your pet.
It is advised to keep strangers away from visiting your sick dog as well. Warn any children that are in the household that they should approach the dog very quietly and gently. Avoid having the children use loud noises or make sudden movements.
As stated above sick dogs don't seem to understand why they can't behave as per normal. Thus they are prone to want to play and interact like normal even though they are not well. So be wary of creating a playful environment because it can cause further problems.
Apart from being comfortable and relaxed, a sick dog also needs to have plenty of warmth. This is especially true while your dog is in bed sleeping. If for some reason your dog's bed area is in a place where it is a little damp or has a draft coming through, then consider adding some sort of heater beside him.
However, be careful that your sick dog does not get too much heat if you do happen to have a heating source nearby. In order to make sure he is not too hot, be sure to touch his coat now and again. This will help you make sure that he is at an appropriate temperature.
